Best Things to Do in Mallorca

Visit Palma de Mallorca

best things to do in Mallorca stroll around Palma, Palma de Mallorca Cathedral

If you’re only visiting for a few days, spending a day or afternoon in Palma is one of the top things to do in Mallorca.

In Palma de Mallorca, you can visit Old Town and see the Palma Cathedral, the Royal Palace of La Almudaina and the Bellver Castle. You can also walk around Via Veri to see lifestyle and art galleries and walk along the Paseo Maritimo, along the beach.

Palma also has great restaurants and shopping. I always love to shop local when I travel and bring back local souvenirs. In Palma, you can stop by Arquinesia in a century old house to shop for perfumes, buy handmade glass items at Gordiola and can stop by Mirmbreria Vidal for all things woven or rattan. If you’re interested in luxury, duty free shopping head to the Borne. It’s a beautiful street to stroll along, and has many of the luxury stores like Louis Vuitton.

For food, start the day by grabbing a pastry at Ca’n Joan de S’Aigo which has incredible ensaimadas and hot chocolate. End the day at Vandal, which is one of the best restaurants we’ve been to.

Visit One of the Best Beaches in Mallorca

best beaches Mallorca, Cala de Llombards

Mallorca has many stunning beaches and there are numerous options to choose from, each with its unique charm. The best beaches include Cala Deia, Port de Soller, Calo del Moro, Cala Llombards, Cala d’Or Playa de Palma, Es Trenc, Cala Agulla and Cala Santanyi.

While all of these beaches are beautiful, the best beaches for your trip may be the beaches that are closest to you, won’t be too crowded during the time you want to arrive or have amenities you’re interested in like cliff jumping. We ended up going to Port de Soller and laying on the beach for a few hours the day we did a day trip to Soller and Cala Llombards the same day we went to Santanyi due to the proximity to Santanyi and because it had cliff jumping.

Spend the day at a Beach Club

The beaches can get pretty crowded in Mallorca, and not all have amenities like bathrooms and food. If you’re looking for a more catered beach environment, head to one of the beach clubs like Gran Folies or Nikki Beach. There, you can reserve chairs ahead of time, be waited on and enjoy more amenities. Note that these beach clubs are not like Mykonos where it’s a day party. But, it’s a nice way to secure a beach chair, be waited on and enjoy a sunny, beautiful day along the water. If you’re wondering which beach club to go to, consider how you’re getting there and back. We went to Gran Folies, which is the most famous one but even though we had a reservation check-in took almost an hour and it took an hour after calling a taxi for the taxi to come get us. The beach clubs near Palma are easier to get a taxi back.

Boat Day Trip

Driving around the island not relaxing for you? Spend the day on a boat, and have the boat drive around the island, and stop at some of the beaches. It’s a great way to see the island and relax at the same time.

Spend a morning at Santanyi and Stroll Around Santanyi Market

Santanyi Market in Mallorca, best things to do Mallorca

A great half-day trip from Palma is Santanyi. On Wednesdays and Saturdays you’ll find the Santanyi Market there, open until 2PM. It’s a very cute area to walk around, enjoy a coffee and buy local crafts and pastries. For some local shopping, head to Flor de Sal d’Es Trenc Shop to get your hands on their famous salt. Santanyi is approx. a 40 minute drive from Palma and the easiest way to get there is to rent a car. There is some public transportation but if you want to go to the beach the same day it’s easier to drive yourself. Cabs are also not as easy to get in Santanyi and the beach. While the town is restricted driving, they have free parking available in a lot right outside the town. Cala Llombards is about 20 minutes past Santanyi.

Train to Soller

Palma to Soller Train, things to do in Mallorca

Taking the historic train from Palma to Soller in Mallorca is a highly recommended experience. The picturesque journey is about an hour long through the countryside and mountains. Soller and Port de Soller are also great areas to visit, so taking the train one way, exploring the area and then taking a taxi or bus back to Palma is a great way to spend a day in Mallorca.

Day Trip to Soller and Port de Soller

shopping in Soller, day trip to Soller, best things to do in Mallorca

Whether you decide to take the historic train to soller, bus or taxi it is very easy to get to and from Soller and Port de Soller from Palma. The train is about an hour, and the taxi and bus are 40 minutes or less. We found it very easy to get a taxi back to Palma from the taxi stand in Port de Soller.

In Soller, there are many great restaurants and shops. We found that a few of the restaurants we wanted to go to weren’t open on Tuesdays including El Petite Café (great place for orange juice / lemonade with views of the Tram) and Ca’n Pintxo. Of all the places we explored in Mallorca, Soller was our favorite for cute, local shops. We bought some shoes and enjoyed a fresh fruit juice popsicle from Angel Agudo Soller.

To get to Port de Soller, it’s an easy 15 min tram ride down and the tram comes every 20-30 minutes. Port de Soller is great to enjoy some time at the beach or enjoy some of their wonderful restaurants. Patiki Beach, a farm to table restaurant, was listed as an Eater Essential Restaurant and it did not disappoint! Kingfisher comes with great reviews too.

Day trip to Deia and Valldemossa

Deia and Vallemossa are beautiful towns in the countryside in Mallorca. Here you can find the luxurious hotel La Residencia. Their restaurant El Olivo is considered one of the best in Mallorca. In Deia, you can walk down to the cove through the olive groves and have a long leisurely lunch. You can also head to Cala Deia and grab a snack at Ca’s Patro March, which has mixed food reviews but it is right on the water and has stunning views of the beach. If you have read Robert Graves’ books, you can look around his home in Deia which is now open to the public, and see his grave in the churchyard.

Valldemossa is a lovely little village with beautiful views in the mountains. If you want to eat lunch in Valldemossa, a great lunch spot is Es Taller Valldemossa. If you like Chopin’s music, you can visit the monastery where Chopin and his lover George Sand stayed for a winter, and see his piano where he composed music.

Explore Mallorca Cuevas del Drach (Dragon Caves)

If you like more adventurous vacations, consider visiting the Cuevas del Drach (Dragon Caves) in Mallorca. You can do a tour, which takes you by boat throughout the cave to admire the rock formations and underground lake.
